A PAIR OF MAGNIFICENT FRENCH SILVER-GILT TUREENS AND COVERS FROM THE BRANICKI SERVICE
PARIS, 1819, MAKER'S MARK OF JEAN-BAPTISTE-CLAUDE ODIOT
Each of circular form, the circular pedestal base raised on four winged spinx paw feet and applied on the sides with classical masks amid foliate scroll and flowerheads, applied above, on each side, with accole armorials surmounted by a coronet, the tureen supported by two freestanding winged kneeling classical maidens and with palmette drop, applied with an elaborately entwined band of dolphins and scrolling grapevines below a palmette rim, the side handles formed as swans in flight, the domed cover with a bud-form finial issuing from a palmette and flowerhead calyx, the cover engraved, on each side, with the same armorials, with plain fitted liners, marked under bases, on interior of bodies, on figures, covers, finials, applied decoration and one liner, the other liner unmarked and later, stamped underneath J. Bte. Cde. ODIOT--16in. (40.1cm.) high
