A PURPLE-GROUND SILK-EMBROIDERED LADY'S INFORMAL ROBE
19TH CENTURY
Worked in satin stitch on the front and back with branches of pink and blue peony interspersed with large multi-colored butterflies, within black-ground borders with similar motifs, the cuffs picked out in pastel colors against a creamy white ground--58 1/2 in. (148.4cm.) long; together with a pale yellow-ground silk-embroidered jacket, 19th century, worked in satin stitch and couched gold threads with shaped figural panels of a male and female in a garden, interspersed with flower sprays, insects and flower and fruit roundels, within ruyi-head borders at the collar and hem, picked out in blue, green and violet against a pale yellow damask ground--50 1/2 in.
