AN AUBERGINE-GROUND RECTANGULAR SILK BROCADE HANGING
18TH/19TH CENTURY

Composed of three vertical panels longitudinally joined, woven with a central design of full-faced lotus heads surrounded by smaller lotus heads borne on meandering foliate scroll, interspersed with bats along the edges of the central field and four corners, all within three bands comprising an inner and outer border of key fret, divided by a lotus-head garland band, picked out in silver, bluish gray, red and coral against a deep purplish-blue satin ground, minor staining--128 x 73 1/2in. (325 x 59.7cm.)
