Made in the form of a battledore, decorated on the cover in takamaki-e, silver lacquer, gyobu nashiji, cut gold and applied gold and silver and colored ivory with scenes of a villa by a stream bordered by a brush fence and flowering plum tree, with silver and colored blossoms, on which perches a small gold bird, the handle a diaper pattern set with florets, the sides gyobu nashiji and the interior of the lid and writing box nashiji, fitted with an ink stone and silver mizuire cast in the form of a leaf spray, silver mounts- 9 7/8 in. (24.9 cm.) long
