This very strong, well-forged and hammered tsuba shows the characteristics of several schools. Its age indicates Shoami work, and it shows strong affinity to the style of the Yagyu school.

EDO PERIOD (CIRCA 1600)
The iron plate is three-lobed and irregular in form. The center is carved with three groups of crashing waves. The surface is hammered and carved in bold line detail. The rim and edge have many large and powerful iron bones--height and width 7.7cm., thickness 5.5mm.
