A KYOTO SHOAMI SCHOOL TSUBA
EDO PERIOD (CIRCA 1700)

The round iron plate is carved in an openwork design of poppy buds, leaves and stems. The leaves and buds have boldly carved line details. The edge has iron bones, and there are some rusted areas--height and width 7.9cm., thickness 4.5mm.

Lot Essay

This design motif is rare for the Kyoto Shoami school. It does appear, in soft metals, on kogai, kozuka and menuki made by the Goto school and others.
