AN EARLY OWARI SUKASHI TSUBA
MUROMACHI PERIOD (CIRCA 1500)

The round iron plate is pierced with a symmetrical design of chrysanthemum leaves and buds to the right and left sides, and the matsukawabishi mon at the top and bottom--height and width 8.2cm., thickness 4.9mm.

In wood box inscribed by Hon'ami Nisshu, dated Showa 43 (1968).

Lot Essay

This katana size classic tsuba is slightly more delicate than most middle Muromachi-period examples.
