This tsuba is signed Myochin, and the inscription states that this artist lived at Tsugaru, a district in the western part of Mutsu. This is the modern city of Hirosaki. The words shinto go tetsu ren, a phrase implying "carefully forged iron", were used by a number of the Myochin masters, most notably by Myochin Munesuke II (1642-1720).
