Lot Essay

This pair (daisho) of tsuba was intended for mounting on a pair of swords--a katana and a wakizashi. The carved marks around the opening (nakago-ana) are of a style commonly found on tsuba made by the Myochin school of Tosa Province (Shikoku Island). The design is in late Akasaka school style.
