Lot Essay

This tsuba exhibits many unusual characteristics. The plate seems young, but the iron bones indicate sand iron and fine quality forging. The design was used by the Shoami, Kyo sukashi and Owari sukashi schools. This type of mixed work became more common in the middle Edo period (1750-1800).
