Lot Essay

This tsuba has many characteristics of the Higo Kanshiro school, although its excessive thickness is rare and the very unusual inlay on the leaves is unknown to Kanshiro work. This may be a tsuba by an independent artist of the Higo area such as Manichibo (fl. 1650).
