AN EARTHENWARE VASE
MEIJI PERIOD (LATE 19TH CENTURY), STAMPED KINKOZAN

Of ovoid form with wide, flat shoulder, short neck and wide mouth ending in a rolled lip, decorated in colored enamels and gilt with three large rectangular panels of samurai, court ladies and a goddess, probably Seiobo, in legendary scenes, framed by a border of gilt lotus petals, the panels in turn bordered by vertical wide bands of silver floral whorls rising from a matching band above the foot, a further silver whorl collar covering the corner within a matching gilt lotus petal band, stamped mark on base- 8 in. (20.4 cm.) high
