AFTER THE WILTEN PATEN, MASTER OF THE CATHEDRAL WORKSHOP OF HILDESHEIM

The center of the obverse with relief figures of Christ on the cross flanked by the Madonna and Saint John and surrounded by attributes of the four Evangelists holding banners inscribed with their names, the rim engraved with scenes contrasting the Church and the Synagogue and inscribed along the circumference, the center of the obverse engraved with an angel proclaiming the Ressurection, the rim with scenes of Christ appearing to Mary Magdalene, the journey to and the Supper at Emaus, the story of Doubting Thomas and the Ascension -----

The present paten is a direct copy of the Wilten Paten made circa 1160 formerly in the Hapsburg collection and now in the Kunsthistorisches Museum, Vienna.
