Painted on a white ground in blue, yellow, green and ochre with the portrait of a young Roman to left, the rim with alternating panels of scale and trellis patterns and a stylized plant, the underside inscribed in red with Sackler number 82.3.6 (restored cracks, rim chips, edges worn, test drill holes filled)--14 3/8in. (36.5cm.) diam.

Sold with thermoluminescence certificate 381s32 dated January 1986 from the Research Laboratory for Archaeology and the History of Art, Oxford University, stating that the sample tested was last fired between 330 and 500 years ago (1486-1656).
