lithograph, 1921, on laid China, Mason's second (final) state, Myers' and Ayres' first state (of two), inscribed with the artist's name and initialled by his daughter in pencil, inscribed 'Bolton Brown - imp.', from the edition of 17 in this state, with wide, unevenly trimmed margins, in very good condition

Lot Essay

Although Mason suggests that Emma Bellows' interpretation of her husband's record books was incorrect, Myers and Ayers confirm that Emma was indeed correct in her listing of the two states of this lithograph: the complex background, as in the lot above, preceding a cut down, simplified version.

From left to right the friends depicted are Leon Kroll, Bellows, Eugene Speicher and Robert Henri.
