LATE KAMAKURA/EARLY NAMBOKUCHO PERIOD (FIRST HALF 14TH CENTURY), PROBABLY YAMATO, SIGNED NORINARI
Sugata: of hira-zukuri with mitsu-mune; nagasa: 6 sun, 4.5 bu (19.5 cm.); sori: muzori. Jihada: masame. Hamon: gonome midare in nie and nioi with some ashi and sunagashi. Boshi: hakikake. Nakago keitai: squared with a slightly bowed mune, ubu and with a moist, brown patina; yasurime: katte sagari; nakagojiri: very shallow kuri-jiri; mei, Norinari.
Koshirae in the form of a folded fan, executed in red and brown lacquer. Two silk storage bags.
Accompanied by a kanteisho, no. 448, dated Showa 53 (1978), issued by Suiken Fukunaga attributing the blade to Yamato, circa 1310; a kanteisho, no. 7357, dated Showa 59 (1984), issued by the Nippon Token Hozon Kai, attributing the blade to Yamato Shikkake (circa 1330); a ninteisho, no. 5504918, dated Showa 55 (1980), issued by the N.B.T.H.K., stating the province unknown.
