Of shaped circular form, on three shell and scroll bracket feet, the scalloped border applied with shells and scrolls, the field engraved with a wide border of rocaille centering an inscription, marked on reverse, also engraved S. Keeley, Fecit, New St. Birmingham--17 3/4 in. (43.8 cm.) diameter

The inscription reads:

This salver, with Tea and Coffee Service, Cake Basket, Cruet Frame, Fish Carvers, 4 Salts, and 1 Doz. Dessert Knives & Forks, WAS PRESENTED TO Mr. John Horton, of Elliots Hall, Fanworth, Warwickshire, by nearly 500 friends and admirers of his extraordinary courage, in ATTACKING 4 BURGLARS, who entered his house on the night of the 27th January last; and his spirited pursuit and capture of 3 of them, who were transported. May 10th 1853.
