THREE SYRIAN CYLINDER SEALS
CIRCA 1920-1840 B.C.
One of hematite engraved with a worshiper holding a jar standing before a deity with rays issuing from his shoulders, the deity steps on a bull which he holds by a leash, brandishes a mace, and grasps an ax and a throw stick, with a scepter, crouching mongoose, and rampant lion in the field, 18 x 9.5 mm, one of hematite engraved with a figure standing before a bearded hero with curly hair, who kneels on one knee and holds a small antelope, a rampant antelope, laden table, and a hare in the field, crescent and star in the sky, 20 x 10 mm, and one of black serpentine engraved with a deity in ascending position holding an emblem with a triangular head, behind him, in two registers divided by a rope-like line, above are six human heads above four antelope heads, and below, three couchant antelopes with turned heads, 23 x 12.5 mm (3)
