EDO PERIOD (CIRCA 1700-1850)
The iron tsuba comprising: a round plate carved nearly in the round with a horse and pine tree separated by a thick, wavy ribbon, the rim with slight iron bones and some pitting (Shoami school, circa 1725)--8.3cm. h., 8.2cm. w., 4.5mm. th.; a round, openwork plate carved with a pole and flying banner, the lower left with a gumbai (war fan) with surface carving, the rim with many fine, small iron bones (Shoami work, circa 1700)--8cm. h., 7.9cm. w., 4.5mm. th., an oval plate carved with bands of connecting matsukawabishi crests, lined circles, and roof tiles, the rim with a shakudo cover--7.4cm. h., 7.2cm. w., 5.5mm. th.; a rounded, rectangular plate pierced with a fishnet design, both hitsu-ana of kogai shape, the rim with slight iron bones--7.1cm. h., 6.5cm. w., 5.25mm. th.; an oval plate decorated with long grass and dew drops, the rim with some running iron bones, (circa 1700)--7.3cm. h., 7.1cm. w., 5mm. th.; an oval plate decorated with a rooster and hen and carved surface details, similar design on reverse, the rim with a few slight iron bones, (circa 1825)--7.5cm. h., 7.2cm. w., 5mm. th.; an oval plate decorated with a crane and pine trees, the rim with a few iron bones (circa 1850)--7.2cm. h., 7cm. w., 6mm. th.; an oval plate with a large comma shape lower left and a willow at top, (the rim with rust spots), (circa 1850)--6.9cm. h., 6.5cm. w., 5.5mm. th.
