FIVE TSUBA OF VARIOUS TYPES
EDO PERIOD (CIRCA 1700-1850)
The tsuba comprising: a round iron plate carved on both sides with plovers over waves, and large, pierced clouds, (gold inlay missing), signed Goshu Hikone ju Soheishi Soten tsukuru--8.3cm. h., 4mm. th.; an oval copper plate with carved spring flowers and pierced with a rabbit, bamboo and clouds, (depatinated), inscribed, Tou and kao--7.1cm. h., 6.9cm. w., 3.5mm. th.; a copper nanako plate inlaid with silver cherry blossoms and shakudo leaves, signed Tomomasa and kao, (Hasegawa Tomomasa was a student of Omori Hidetomo, circa 1830)--7cm. h., 6.3cm. w., 4mm. th.; an oval iron plate inlaid with a shakudo and gold bamboo trunk and leaves (inlay is flush in Kaga style, circa 1800)--7.6cm. h., 7.1cm. w., 4.5mm. th.; a rounded, trapezoidal iron plate carved and inlaid (in Tanaka style) with high relief shakudo and copper tiger and hitsu-ana in the form of a cave entrance, (circa 1850)--8cm. h., 7.8cm. w., 3.5mm. th.
