The oval, polished shibuichi plate carved and inlaid with Taishin O Fujin seated by the sea shore and playing a stringed insturment, inlaid in gold, silver, shakudo, and shibuichi, the reverse decorated with a dragon in the sea, inlaid in silver, gold, copper, and shakudo--6.3cm. high, 5.8cm. wide, 3.5mm. thick

Hata Nobuyoshi, also called Iwama Shinro (1807-1878), was a student of Iwama Nobuyuki (1789-1842) and Masayoshi (1764-1837). Compare the kozuka by Nobuyoshi sold in these rooms on March 31, 1992 in the Collection of Walter A. Compton, Part I, lot 216; compare the subject to lot 217 in the same sale.
