Black with red leather upholstery
Engine: four cylinder, overhead valve, 2,138cc., 109bhp at 4,700rpm; Gearbox: four-speed manual; Suspension: semi-elliptic leaf springs front and rear; Brakes: fuor wheel hydraulically operated drums. Right hand drive.
MG recovered quickly after the Second World War and began production on its new TC series which were among the first cars built anywhere following the war.
This fine example was purchased in 1952 by the well known classic car collector Reid Miles. During his ownership, Mr. Miles spent many hours improving and maintaining his cherished TC to the highest degree and subsequently this car became very famous in TC circles. The greatest modification made was the installation of a later and more powerful engine, taken from a 1966 Triumph TR4. This engine fits neatly into the engine compartment and to the untrained eye it looks as though it should have always been there. Mr. Miles had the car finished in this striking color scheme of black body, polished aluminum hood and front valence, Union Jack insignia, red wire wheels and matching red leather upholstery. He also fitted a Bluemels wire steering wheel and Brooklands racing aero screens. Other features include the leather hood strap, fog lamps and a full set of weather equipment including tonneau cover and side screens. Wind wings are also fitted, the rear view mirror has beveled glass and the door sills have been engine turned.
The TC remained in the ownership of Reid Miles for some 41 years, and when he passed away the car was sold by his estate through Christie's at Pebble Beach in our 1993 auction. The successful bay area collector who bought the car in turn cherished the MG and it was driven very sparingly, but was maintained to the highest standard. He in turn sold it, again at Christie's Pebble Beach, in 1999 to the current owner who is a resident of Pebble Beach. The new owner had it thoroughly checked over by Autorama of Sand City in Monterey County. This included adjusting the brakes and clutch, checking the gearbox and going through the wiring. The complete bill amounted to $1,000 or so. A new bonnet strap was also fitted. The current owner is a member of the Cypress MG Club at Pebble Beach and has occasionally used the car locally, having driven it about 100 miles in his two years of ownership.
As we said in our 1999 catalogue, an MG TC is the epitome of the classic British sports car and we are delighted to be presenting this one again.
