Lot Essay

According to the Annual Accounts of the Royal Small Arms Factory, Enfield for 1900-01, two experimental wooden scabbards were produced. The following year, Enfield produced a leather scabbard, of which this example is one. The Ministry of Defence Pattern Room, Nottingham, does not have an example of this scabbard in its collection.
