Oblong rectangular engine-turned gold box with rounded corners, of flattened shape, the push-piece set with a red stone, the interior of the cover inset with a mirror -- 8.8 cm wide

Lot Essay

Alexander James Strachan was the most prolific of the London gold box makers in the early 19th Century. He entered his mark as a small-worker in 1799 and later was described as the "Paul Storr" of gold boxes. He died between 1842 and 1850.
