Lot Essay

This is a reduced version of Isabey's rectangular watercolour, signed and dated avril 1811, which was sent by Empress Marie-Louise to her father Emperor Francis II of Austria, and now in the Albertina (see Mme de Basily-Callimaki, J.-B. Isabey, sa vie - son temps, Paris 1909, illustr. opp. p. 144). Another watercolour, dated MARS 1811, is in the Louvre (illustr. in the exhibition catalogue Souvenirs du Roi de Rome, Paris, Musée de l'Orangerie, 1932, cat. nr 68).
