Philip of France, Duke of Anjou (1683-1746), second son of the Grand Dauphin and grandson of King Louis XIV of France, became King of Spain under the name of Philip V, in 1700, according to the will of King Charles II of Spain who had died without issue. He married secondly Elisabeth Farnese (1692-1766), daughter of Odoardo Farnese II, Duke of Parma and Dorothy of Bavaria.
Philip V was the father of several souvereigns including King Louis I of Spain, King Ferdinand VI of Spain, King Charles III of Spain (see lot 364), and Philip, Duke of Parma (see preceding lot).
