An ancient inscription on the backing paper of the miniature indicates: "Le Roi d'Espagne chassant au tir dans le Parc de Saint- Idelphonse.".
Charles III (1716-1788), son of King Philip V and Elisabeth Farnese (see lot 359), became Duke of Parma in 1731, King of the Two-Sicilies in 1755, and King of Spain in 1754. Among the six surviving children from his marriage to Maria-Amalia of Saxony were King Charles IV of Spain (see lot 371) and King Ferdinand IV of the Two-Sicilies (see lot 344).
