A PAIR OF ORMOLU AND SÈVRES-PATTERN DARK-BLUE-GROUND VASES AND SPIRALLY MOULDED COVERS
Late 19th Century

The tapering cylindrical bodies painted with scantily clad cherubs holding attributes of Summer and Winter in typical landscapes, one painted on the reverse with a Summer landscape at sunrise, with water gushing over rocks before a village and distant mountains, the other with a Winter landscape at sunset, a traveller walking along a path before thatched cottages, mounted with pine-cone and drapery finials, two angular handles with grotesque mask and ring terminals, beaded rims and lower bodies cast with ribbons, drapery and leaf paterae, giltmetal liners, raised on four slender legs cast with acanthus and with hoof terminals, on shaped square bases and stepped disc-shaped feet (one cover restored, wear to gilding), signed Ab: Schilt de Sèvres
