Lot Essay

The sitters in the present lot have been identified on labels on the stretchers as Mr and Mrs Schuurbecque Boeye, née van Rijckevorsel. This identification cannot be sustained as no marriage between members of these two families took place circa 1705. An alternative identification could be Johan Timmers and his wife Susanna Libertina Schinne, parents-in-law of Paulus Boogaert van Alblasserdam (see lot 84)
