The original, on panel, 99.5 x 78.8 cm, is in the Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Kassel. It was acquired by Landgraf Wilhelm VIII of Hessen by 1749 (see J. Bruyn et.al., A Corpus of Rembrandt Paintings, 1986, II, no. A 85). The Corpus volume lists two other painted copies, one (no. 4) has been in the Koninklijk Museum voor Schone Kunsten, Antwerp, since 1850
