SYNAXARIUM [Calculation of the Festivals of Our Lord], Maskaram to Yaklatit, in Geez, ETHIOPIAN MANUSCRIPT ON VELLUM
[Ethiopia, early 18th century]
350 x 300mm, 244 leaves + original vellum flyleaf, collation: 1-138 1410 15-298 3010, in three columns of 29 lines, ruled in plummet with pricking marks along the outer edge, justification: 225 x 235mm, written in black ink in a regular elegant hand, rubrics in red. (Blank? portion of f.170 cut away; last 2 leaves stained). Contemporary blind-tooled leather over wooden boards (stitching at upper cover partly loose)
PROVENANCE: The owner's name erased throughout. A note at the head of f.2 ascribes the ownership to a church of St.Michael given by Taeka Giyorgis
