Super-chancery 2° (306x211mm). Collation: [1-1310 1412] (1/1r table, 1/1v letter by Gregory to Bp. Secundinus, 1/2r text, 14/12r homilies arranged according to ecclesiastical calendar). 142 leaves. 33 lines. Type: 2:118G. 3-line initials, paragraph marks and capital strokes in red. (A few light stains on first and final leaves, occasional light spots scattered.) Eighteenth-century quarter-vellum and speckled paper over pastepaper boards, red speckled edges. Provenance: homily numbers written in an early hand in upper margin; Augsburg, Dominicans, inscription, with place-name replaced by; Obermedling (Medlingani), Dominican nuns.

FIRST EDITION of these 40 sermons delivered by Gregory in 590-91. Concerned to make the doctrine of the church more graphic to his listeners, Gregory employed homilies, here to explicate the liturgical celebration of Sundays and feasts.
