A Thangka of a Shamar Lama
Eastern Tibet, 18th/19th Century
The red-hatted Shamar lama seated on a blue cushion in dhyanasana with his right hand in vitarka mudra in a rocky mountain landscape flanked by two smaller monks on similar cushions with their garments painted with fine gold detail, the corners with outlines of hands and feet painted in gold and at center a depiction of Vajravarahi at top and Black Cloak Mahakala below, mounted in brocade
