Lot Essay

Another version of The Studio of Apelles, oil on copper, signed 'V.G. Platzer', was offered at the Dorotheum, Vienna, 13-16 March 1962, lot 79.

A similar pair of mythological paintings, Mercury and Herse and Atalanta's Race with Hippomenes (one signed with initials 'I.G.P.', on copper, 39 x 61.4cm.), was sold in these Rooms, 8 Dec. 1989, lot 43.
