One side with a miniature in gouache hightened with gold of a young prince with courtiers consulting a sheikh, erroneously attributed to Bichitr, finely drawn margins with floral designs within cartouches in gold, verso with a leaf of calligraphy with four lines of fine black nasta'liq signed below Muhammad Ma'sum, also with fine gold floral margins

Lot Essay

This is a leaf from an album assembled in the middle of the 18th century and dispersed at auction in the 1970's. A number of paintings show signs of having been taken from other albums before being remounted in this fashion. It seems likely that the most important miniatures date from the Shah Jahan period.
