1929 SCOTT TT REPLICA 500cc
Registration No. SV 4956
Frame No. 2334M
Engine No RZ 2399
Black with painted tank
The famous Scott motorcycles were the brainchild of Yorkshireman Alfred Angus Scott and his vertical two stroke twins became legends in their own lifetime. The Scott is perhaps 'The Bugatti of Motorcycles'. Their popularity was very much founded upon the tremendously successful racing machines and the first senior TT win came in 1912 and was repeated in 1913.
One of the most sought after of all Scotts is the TT Replica model introduced in 1928 at the Olympia Show, based upon the machine which Tommy Hatch rode to 3rd place in the 1928 Senior TT. As the 1929 catalogue stated, 'Designed essentially for the speedman, the TT Replica is the outcome of years of racing experience. The engine has a longer stroke and for power it is in advance of any previous Scott engine. In its design are embodied many original Scott features and like all Scott machines it is built to an ideal. Its roadholding and cornering abilities are a revelation.' This example, with a letter of authenticity from the Scott Owners Club, completed a full restoration about 12 months ago. The engine (now bored out to 600cc) and gearbox (medium/close ratio box) were overhauled by renowned Scott specialist Ken Lack, who also restored the front forks and replaced the fork tubes. All the cycle parts were painted and overhauled and the petrol tank painted with real gold leaf lines. The magneto was overhauled and other new parts fitted include, tyres, radiator and a 2" exhaust pipe and Howarth silencer; finally all the bright parts were nickel plated. Since the restoration this fine and rare machine has had little use, it comes with a new MoT (Aug) and V5 form.
