Two Qur'an folios
Spain, probably Granada, 12th century

Comprising sura lxxix, al-Nazi'at, part vv. 31-44, and sura lxxxii, al-Infitar, part vv. 4-15, manuscript on vellum, each folio with 7ll. of large brown maghribi, diacritical markings in blue, yellow, green and red, gold and coloured knots, drop-shapes or rosettes between verses, larger circular and drop-shaped motifs marking the fifth and tenth verses, (some staining to edges, light rubbing, damages and repairs to corners)

Lot Essay

A larger section of the same Qur'an was sold in these Rooms 20 October 1992, lot 234. The present leaves complete two of the lacunae in that section. The larger section was also exhibited in Saudi Arabia and published in the catalogue , The Unity of Islamic Art, London and Riyadh, 1985, no.11.
