Engraved Hayange, dated 1859

Each with upper half with a laurel and palm-frond cast top above a tapering fluted column, on a baluster base supported on a triform dolphinhead and shell-cast foot, the lower half of trefoil form, cast with female masks, shells and foliate festoons between scrolled acanthus-cast legs, on lion's paw feet, each inscribed Hayange 1859, fitted for electricity

Lot Essay

The present pair of lamps were most probably made at the Hayange foundry, owned by the de Wendel family and operating in the town of Hayange, in north-east France, during the third quarter of the nineteenth century.
