A FINE PAIR OF 18-BORE SPANISH MIQUELET-LOCK BELT PISTOLS

With blued two-stage barrels each turned at the muzzle and chiselled and gilt girdle, octagonal breeches struck with gold-lined maker's stamp of Juan Esteban Bustindui of Eibar (Neue Støckel 124), a gold-lined cross mark and three gold-lined fleur-de-lys marks, inscribed 'Herra Duras' and inlaid with engraved foliage in gold, gold-lined touch-holes, tangs engraved with foliage, engraved partly chiselled bevelled locks each with gold-lined mark, almost certainly that of Domingo Gabiola of Eibar, walnut full stocks (one butt cracked) carved behind the tangs with a grotesque mask within a garland suspended from chains, engraved iron mounts, rounded side-plates, spurred pommels each with oval cap chiselled with foliage against a gilt granular ground within a border of engraved guilloche design, trigger-guards with further mark of Bustindui (gold lining incomplete on one and missing from the other), iron belt hooks each with pierced tip, original ramrods, and much original finish
