MENDELSSOHN BARTHOLDY, Felix (1809-1847). AUTOGRAPH LETTER SIGNED to an unnamed convalescent, Leipzig, 18 February 1843, wishing him well, enclosing a note from a mutual friend and sending his unwell correspondent a sum of money to help him during his misfortune, black ink, 2 pages on a bifolium, 8vo, (190 x 125mm.)

A letter of great kindness to an acquaintance, to whose recovery by means of a strict and suitable diet Mendelssohn looks confidently forward. Despite the recipient's embarassment, Mendelssohn expresses his pleasure that he is in a position at the time of writing to be able to help financially and that the money need only be refunded when his correspondent is free from all cares about his health. In the meantime, Mendelssohn gives assurances of his absolute discretion.
