AUTOGRAPH LETTER SIGNED to Jacob Rosenhain, Leipzig, 2 December 1836, concerning plans for Rosenhain's overture to be performed in Leipzig, Mendelssohn's imminent arrival in Frankfurt and sending through Rosenhain heartfelt greetings to his fiancée Cécile, black ink, 1 page, 4to, (245 x 192mm.) with integral autograph address leaf. - AUTOGRAPH LETTER SIGNED, in French, to 'M.Rousselot', n.p., 9 May 1847, introducing his friends and asking for tickets for a performance to be sent to them, black ink, 1 page, 8vo, (180 x 11mm.), (laid down on card).
Jacob Rosenhain (1813-1894) was a composer and pianist, who from 1832 lived in Frankfurt, and had clearly written to Mendelssohn in Leipzig asking to have an overture performed by the Gewndhaus Orchestra, of which Mendelssohn was conductor. Mendelssohn explains that the decision to have the work performed is not his alone, but as everyone in Leipzig would like to hear Rosenhain's work, he suggests that he collects the score from Rosenhain when he is in Frankfurt. Rosenhain also wrote three symphonies, the first in G minor was performed by the Gewandhaus orchestra under Mendelssohn in 1840.
Mendelssohn married Cécile on 28 March 1837 in Frankfurt. (2)
