This early letter, written in sometimes wayward English with a number of corrections, susggesting that it may possibly be a draft, dates from the very beginning of Mendelssohn's highly important visit to Scotland in the summer of 1830, the culmination of his first visit to Britain and the inspiration for some of his most renowned works.
