The registers of the fluted design embellished alternately with foliate motifs and an inscription 'O + MATER + DEI + ME + M ATO + MEI'.

Lot Essay

The present bead, which is reputed to have been found in the vicinity of Lewes Priory, presumably originally came from a rosary and may have been partially enamelled. Given the size, it is likely to have been one of the larger beads used to signal the end of a decade.
