the case surmounted by the allegorical figure of a classically robed maiden wearing a floral garland, shown leaning over and pensively contemplating a slate and scrolls, a lyre to the side of the case, the circular gilt bronze engine milled dial signed Galle Paris, within a serpent modelled glazed bezel above a gallery of stiff-leaf ornament, on a rectangular plinth with further conforming gallery, with paw feet, the movement with silk suspension and countwheel strike on a bell, with pendulum and key
