A White-Glazed Shallow Dish
13th-14th century, Huozhou kilns, Shanxi province
Thinly potted, the lower body widely flared before angling upwards to the rim, covered overall with a glaze of ivory tone, the neatly cut foot ring with four pointed spurs, with four minute spur marks on the interior; together with a small Ding-type bowl, Song dynasty, with rounded sides raised on a small ring foot and rising to a slightly everted, copper-bound rim, covered overall with a glaze of ivory tone

Lot Essay

Shards of Huozhou ware, a foot from a stem cup showing five small pointed spurs similar to those on the Falk dish, and a fragment of a dish of similar carinated outline as the present dish, were included in the exhibition, Kiln Sites of Ancient China, British Museum and Ashmolean Museum, 1980, pp. 103 and 162, nos. 469 and 470 respectively.
