Half-title, 16 hand-coloured aquatint plates by or after Hassell, Ibbetson and Laporte. Contemporary red straight-grained morocco gilt, g.e. (lower cover stained). Provenance: Lady Augusta Sophia Bennet, daughter of Charles, fourth Earl of Tankerville (ownership inscription); Chillingham Castle, Chatton, Northumberland (bookplate). FIRST EDITION. NOBLE, William Bonneau. A Guide to the Watering Places on the coast, between the Exe and the Dart; including Teignmouth and Dawlish, and Torquay. Teignmouth: E.Croydon [and others], 1817. 8° (210 x 128mm.). Engraved folding map (repaired at fold), 16 hand-coloured plates after Noble by D.Havell and others, four folding (occasional slight wear at folds). Contemporary tree calf gilt (rebacked). The DNB notes that, after the double disappoint of rejection by a loved one and the Royal Academy, Noble attempted suicide and eventually died of 'a decline' in 1831.
