3 volumes, 2° (470 x 365mm.). 2 lithographed dedication leaves (lacking title and content leaves), 16 hand-coloured engraved plates of insignia 'Schemas' and 401 HAND-COLOURED LITHOGRAPHED PLATES OF UNIFORMS (most with the plate margins cut away and mounted), together with the printed plate captions, on thick grey paper, title and most plates in vol. I stamped with the initials P.P.V. surmounted by the Emperor's crown (a few plates slightly soiled, one damaged in corners; several mounts slightly torn or damaged, often repaired). Vol. I bound in contemporary cream morocco gilt, vols. II and III in similiar style contemporary calf gilt, uniform crimson watered silk linings, g.e. (a little rubbed and scuffed).

The military costume plates comprise 376 of the 385 German uniforms listed by Colas and 25 additional plates: 1 duplicate, 8 variants of plates of Hamburg(1), Hannover(4), Hessen-Darmstadt(2) and Mecklenburg-Strelitz and 16 plates of Anhalt-Bernburg(1), Braunschweig(2), Hamburg(2), Hannover(2), Hessen-Darmstadt(5), Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen(1), Kgr.Sacksen(1), Sachsen-Coburg-Gotha(1) and Sachsen-Weimar(1).
