Abbey Travel 213; Prideaux pp. 230,337 'one of the earliest illustrated books on the Rhine district'. The Reverend Gardnor, one time drawing master, teacher and exhibitor at the Royal Academy, was one of the earliest amateur artists to use aquatint. He originally published the work in parts, probably without text, initially using other engravers for the plates, but by the final part carrying out the entire work by himself. The list of subscribers lists 86 names for coloured, 'proofs' and 'prints' sets. This copy is on larger paper almost as large as the British Library copy (685 x 560mm).
