A RARE 'VIKING' SWORD, in excavated condition, with broad straight double-edged blade, the hilt with 'cocked hat' pommel comprising shaped upper feature on a short cross-piece formed of two layers, respectively wood and iron, sandwiched between thin brass plates and held together by two rivets, short straight cross, a pointed oval in plan, similarly constructed, but with the bottom plate of iron, the iron parts inlaid in silver throughout with transverse lines and saltires, on each face of the pommel flanking a geometrical panel involving a cross, and original wooden grip (consolidated), together with silver and tinned copper(?) sheath mounts, mounted on perspex and including crescents, a cross and a miniature horn, 8th Century
