A PAIR OF FLINTLOCK DUELLING PISTOLS with browned twist octagonal sighted barrels each with oblong lead-lined (originally gold-lined) maker's stamp on the top flat, gold line and vent, case-hardened tangs engraved with a trophy of arms and rococo ornament, signed engraved case-hardened locks with gold-lined pans and rollers, figured walnut full stocks (originally fitted for belt hooks, detached), flat-sided chequered walnut butts, blued steel mounts including trigger-guards each engraved with a trophy of arms and with pineapple finial, shield-shaped silver escutcheons engraved with owner's initials, set triggers, and later brass-tipped wooden ramrods (the metal parts refinished during the pistols' working life): in brass-mounted relined and refitted mahogany case with some accessories, by William Jover, London, London proof marks, circa 1800
